Let's get started! ## Recipe: Homemade Fig Newtons ### Ingredients * 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour * 2 tablespoons cornstarch * 1 teaspoon baking powder * ½ teaspoon salt * ¾ cup cold butter, cut into small cubes * ½ cup packed light brown sugar * 1 large egg * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract * 1 cup fig preserves ### Instructions #### Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350°F #### Step 2: Make the dough 1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt. 2. Add the butter and use a pastry cutter or two forks to cut it into the flour mixture until it’s in small crumbs. 3. Add the brown sugar, egg, and vanilla and stir until the dough comes together. #### Step 3: Assemble the Newtons 1. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. 2. Roll the dough out to ¼-inch thick on a lightly floured surface. 3. Cut the dough into 2-inch squares. 4. Place one teaspoon of fig preserves in the center of each square. 5.
