Now let's get to baking! ## Guyanese Cross Buns Recipe #### Ingredients: * 2 cups all-purpose flour * 1 teaspoon baking powder * 1/2 teaspoon baking soda * 1/2 teaspoon salt * 1/4 cup butter, melted * 1/2 cup sugar * 1/2 cup milk * 2 tablespoons finely chopped mixed peel * 2 tablespoons finely chopped raisins * 2 tablespoons finely chopped currants * 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger * 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon * 1 egg * 1 tablespoon water #### Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 375°F. 2. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. 3. In a separate bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, milk, mixed peel, raisins, currants, ginger and cinnamon. 4. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the wet ingredients. 5. Mix until just combined. 6. On a lightly floured surface, turn out the dough and knead it for about 5 minutes. 7. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball. 8. Place the balls on a greased baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. 9. Beat the egg with the water and brush each bun with the egg wash. 10.
